St. Benedict’s ‘Tamarind Dumpling’ Tops Youth Cook-Off

On Friday February 17, 2023, the Cathedral Youth Movement hosted a cook-off competition among its youth, with the invited presence of youth from Corpus Christi and St. Benedicts parishes.

Groups were asked to prepare one main meal within two hours using a coal pot and source ingredients using a budget of $150.00. Additionally, they had to incorporate a secret ingredient, revealed to them on the day, tamarind.

Rice’s Fire Starters
Pressure Cookers

St. Benedicts Parish who unfortunately arrived an hour late did not require the full two hours to finish their dish, as they did so with 30 mins to spare, and took the first position with their callaloo and crayfish dish, incorporating their secret ingredient in the dumpling, making a truly unique and interesting ‘tamarind dumpling’.

The Pressure Cookers from Cathedral parish comprising of Tyler Lucas, Donniesia Yearwood and Sade Reddock took second place while Rice’s Fire Starters Samaya Duncan, Zoe Jack and Joshua Jack took third place.
