The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, “Corpus Christi” is often marked with a splendid procession carrying the Blessed Sacrament through the town after Mass. The procession has been solemnly approved and recommended as “a public profession of the Catholic faith in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament”. However, for the past two years this procession was halted almost worldwide due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday June 16, 2022, the faithful of the Cathedral parish took to the streets of Kingstown in this bold and solemn show of faith.
The procession which was preceded by Holy Mass at the Cathedral began at approximately 6:30 p.m. and culminated in the dark of the evening. Two stops were made at St. Joseph’s Convent, Kingstown, and the St. Martin’s Secondary School for benediction. From there the procession, led by a police outrider, made its way back to the Cathedral in candlelight silence, reciting the holy rosary.
